The Sound of Legends
The V72a Legacy
The original Telefunken V72a was the preamp of choice at Abbey Road Studios, where it shaped the sound of The Beatles and countless other landmark recordings. Its Class-A tube circuit, built with meticulous German engineering, delivers a warmth and harmonic complexity that no other preamp can replicate. The TF-72a V2 faithfully captures this magic using NM2 neural network modeling — V2 brings improved accuracy with lower CPU usage.
- Faithful emulation of the legendary Telefunken V72a
- NM2 neural network technology for circuit-level accuracy
- The preamp behind Abbey Road's golden era
- V2 engine: improved fidelity, reduced CPU load
- From subtle warmth to full tube saturation
Five Saturation Characters
The original V72a hardware was known for its tonal variety depending on circuit conditions and tube selection. The TF-72a V2 captures this with five distinct Boost Models, each offering a different saturation flavor and harmonic profile. From clean, airy tube coloring to dense, aggressive harmonic overdrive — five preamps in one plugin.
- Boost 1: Subtle warmth and gentle tube coloring
- Boost 2: Classic mid-range presence and body
- Boost 3: Rich harmonic saturation with weight
- Boost 4: Aggressive drive with harmonic complexity
- Boost 5: Full tube overdrive with dense harmonics
Ultra-X 192kHz Mode
When you push tube saturation hard, aliasing artifacts can compromise quality. Ultra-X Mode processes at up to 192kHz, dramatically minimizing aliasing even at the most extreme drive settings. The result is the cleanest, most authentic tube saturation possible in a plugin — the closest you can get to the original hardware's behavior at any level.
- Up to 192kHz internal processing rate
- Eliminates aliasing at extreme drive settings
- Superior quality closest to original hardware
- Engage for critical recording and mixing sessions
- Clean tube saturation without digital compromise
Works On Everything
Vocals, drums, guitars, bass, synths — anywhere you need tube warmth, presence, and harmonic richness
Vocals
The V72a is legendary on vocals. Add warmth, presence, and that unmistakable tube sheen that makes vocals sit perfectly in any mix.
Drums & Percussion
Push the drive for punchy, saturated drums. The five Boost modes let you dial in the exact amount of grit and harmonic weight.
Guitars
From clean tube warmth to aggressive overdrive — the TF-72a adds body and harmonic complexity to acoustic and electric guitars alike.
Keys & Synths
Warm up digital synths and keys with authentic analog tube character. Subtle settings add life without altering the fundamental tone.
Mix Bus
Gentle tube saturation on the mix bus adds cohesion and analog warmth. Use low drive with the Mix control for transparent enhancement.
Bass & Low End
Add harmonic presence to bass without muddying the low end. The HPF lets you saturate mids and highs while keeping the lows clean.
Features & Controls
Input gain into the valve processing. From subtle warmth at lower settings to aggressive tube saturation when pushed hard. This is the heart of the TF-72a — where the magic of the original Telefunken circuit comes alive.
Engage up to 192kHz processing that minimizes aliasing at extreme settings. When you're driving the preamp hard, Ultra-X ensures the saturation remains clean, musical, and free of digital artifacts — superior quality closest to the original hardware.
Five distinct tonal characters offering different saturation flavors and harmonic profiles captured from the original hardware. Each Boost model emphasizes different parts of the harmonic spectrum — from gentle tube coloring to dense, complex overdrive. Five preamps in one plugin.
Parallel processing blend. Mix the saturated signal with the original dry signal for transparent enhancement. At lower mix settings, you get the tube character layered subtly under your source. At 100%, you get the full V72a experience.
20Hz to 500Hz range, applied pre-processing to remove unwanted low-end before saturation. This prevents bass frequencies from driving the tube circuit into muddy distortion — essential for clean, focused saturation on full-range material.
2kHz to 20kHz range, applied post-processing to tame harshness after saturation. When driving the preamp hard, high-frequency harmonics can become aggressive — the LPF lets you smooth the top end while keeping the warmth and body.
-12dB to +12dB precision input adjustment for optimal signal staging. Set the input level before it hits the Drive control to ensure the tube circuit is seeing the ideal signal level for your desired saturation character.
Automatic gain compensation keeps output levels consistent as you drive the signal harder. This lets you focus purely on tonal decisions rather than volume differences — essential for making accurate A/B comparisons between settings.
Customize the plugin window to fit your workflow. Whether you prefer a compact view on a laptop or a large, detailed interface on a studio monitor — the TF-72a V2 scales to your preference.
